Medical Assistant Program

Students seeking admission to the medical assisting program must meet the following basic requirements:

​

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities required by the profession

  • Must be able to perform basic calculations

  • Must be free of communicable diseases

  • Applicants are required to register at least 4 weeks before the commencement of each class

  • Attendance at all classroom sessions is required for completion

Competencies Prior to Enrollment

Introduction to Healthcare:

  • Basic Anatomy and Physiology

  • Patient Care Skills

  • Medical Assistant Basic Laboratory Skills

  • Pharmacology

  • Pharmacology Skills Laboratory

  • Electrocardiography (EKG)

  • EKG Skills Laboratory

  • Phlebotomy

  • Phlebotomy Skills Laboratory

  • Administrative Skills

  • CPR (separate tuition)

Practice:​

 

       In addition to classroom hours necessary for course  completion, all medical assistant program graduates apply for and are awarded externship positions at physician practices, hospitals, urgent care and laboratory settings to apply their newly learned hands on skills to the real world healthcare setting. Our instructors and career counselors also assist graduates with resume writing, interview skills, and how to create an impressive professional portfolio to help students obtain the position right for them.

          Our clinical instructors also provide assisted study sessions and NHA exam review prior to certification  boards, leading to a high success rate of our students passing exams on the first try.

Congratulations to our new class of Certified Phlebotomy Technicians!

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

​

  1. Define key medical terminology necessary for quality patient care skills

  2. Identify the Medical Assistant’s role and responsibilities within the healthcare setting

  3. Adequately discuss the history of medicine and the Medical Assisting profession

  4. Identify certification and credentialing organizations for the Medical Assistant

  5. Discuss the role of the National Healthcareer Association in certifying Medical Assistants

  6. Perform hands-on clinical skills such as vital signs, injections, medication administration, venipuncture and perform EKGs

  7. Educate patients in a clinical setting on necessary topics such as medication side effects and postoperative care

  8. Assist in front office operations and management, including handling patient appointments and insurance verification

  9. Appropriately handle emergencies in the outpatient clinical setting
